Taste of Soul 2026 – 21st Annual – Crenshaw

Published by Erica “EMissyK” – Your Guide to LA’s People, Places & Cultural Pulse

Taste of Soul Returns October 17, 2026 … And This One Is Personal

Every year, when Taste of Soul rolls around, I feel something in my spirit. I’ve been attending this festival since the very beginning back when it was just a bold idea on Crenshaw Blvd, a celebration of Black culture, Black food, Black music, and Black joy. I’ve watched it grow from a neighborhood gathering into the biggest free block party in Los Angeles, produced by the Los Angeles Sentinel and powered by Bakewell Media. And let me tell you… it has grown beautifully.

Taste of Soul is one of those rare LA experiences where you can literally feel the heartbeat of our community. It feels more like a family reunion. By noon, you’re elbow‑to‑elbow with thousands of people, all this melanin glowing in the sun, all this joy, all this peace. No drama. No tension. Just love, culture, and connection.

Why This Festival Means So Much to Me

I’ve seen legends grace those stages over the years – Maze, The Whispers, Troop, and so many timeless artists who shaped the soundtrack of our lives. And then you walk a little further and catch the newest voices in R&B, soul, jazz, gospel, and hip‑hop. Taste of Soul is where generations meet.

One of my favorite parts? The Gospel Stage. The energy, the praise, the voices that lift you right up … it’s unmatched.

Then there’s … Children’s World is one of the most joyful corners of Taste of Soul, a bright, welcoming space created especially for our kids and the families who make this festival what it is. Presented by St. John’s Community Health, this free activation celebrates the creativity, confidence, and cultural pride of our youngest community members.

From youth performances to hands‑on activities, Children’s World is where you see our babies shine. It’s where families gather, laugh, cheer, and witness the next generation stepping into their gifts. And year after year, it remains one of the most heartwarming parts of the entire Taste of Soul experience.

And the food… whew. Blocks and blocks of soul food, desserts, fusion dishes, and Black‑owned vendors showing off their creativity. The artistry of our people is on full display – from handcrafted goods to fashion to cultural pieces that tell our story.

This year, I’ll be sharing a photo gallery from last year’s festival right here on Reach LA Angels – so you can feel the energy, the joy, and the love that makes this event so special.

Parking & Transportation Tips (From Someone Who’s Been There Every Year)

Let me be real with you … parking gets wild. Taste of Soul brings out hundreds of thousands of people, so plan ahead:

  • Uber or Lyft is your friend.
  • If you drive, expect to park in the surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall usually has open parking early in the day.
  • Arrive early the festival fills up fast.
  • Metro K Line is a great option if you want to avoid traffic altogether.

Trust me, a little planning goes a long way.

Why You Should Go

Because Taste of Soul is us. It’s our culture, our music, our food, our families, our joy. It’s one of the few places in LA where you can walk for miles and feel completely at home.

If you’ve never been, 2026 is your year. If you’re a regular like me, you already know – we’ll see each other on Crenshaw.
